Response #6

During our class period today, everyone brought in a bunch of random items that we were able to dissemble and turn into something else. This is called remixing. For this activity, two girls and I created a sort of diorama out of some of the things people brought in. We created a river, canoe, bridge, and coral out of a Red Solo cup, chopsticks, tape, ribbon, and a glove. We created the canoe out of the Red Solo cup, oars out of chopsticks, coral out of the fingers of a glove and tape and ribbon to form the bridge. This was all put in the lid of a shoe box. This reminded me of a lot of the dioramas we did in elementary school through high school. I didn’t enjoy doing these when I was younger, but I enjoy doing them now. I think it’s super cool to make a mini version of a place.

For my remix project, I am thinking about doing something similar to the remix of John Lennon’s Imagine or a remix of a movie into a trailer that is different than the original movie’s genre. I think that these are super cool and unique. My only concern with doing one of these is that I am not the best with editing software, and I am not the best artist. Though, I think it would be super fun to remix one of my favorite movies. I don’t have many ideas of how I would remix the movies, but some of my favorite movies are Frozen, Harry Potter, The Breakfast Club, Big Hero 6 and The Perks of Being a Wallflower. I feel like I could remix any of these into a horror movie trailer that would be super cool. I also like the idea of remixing a song into illustrations because music is something I am really passionate about. I have many favorite songs that I think it would be fun to make a sort of comic strip out of, though I don’t know off the top of my head what those songs would be.
